Colorado Lawn Care Tips
Caring for any lawn can be a rewarding yet sometimes challenging endeavor and when you live in the state of Colorado the task becomes even more daunting. Though it is a pain to sometimes maintain your Colorado lawn it really is a necessity. You Can have the biggest and brightest house in the neighborhood but when you lawn looks bad the entire property looks bad as a result. With a bad looking lawn comes the loss of curb-appeal and that is never a positive scenario for your home.
Again, the state of Colorado offers many challenges that you may not see in the more southern states when it comes to lawn care but if you go about your lawn care properly you can rest assured that your lawn will look its best all year long. Here are some tips to help you keep your Colorado lawn looking great:
Water regularly when warm: During the warm months it is important to make sure that your lawn is getting an adequate amount of water. If you rely on the rain to do this for you will be let down in a big way. Colorado is known for its drought ridden lawns and in order to have your lawn escape the brown patchy look you have to feed it water. If you do not have an irrigation system try to make time either early in the morning or late at night and dispense water as evenly as possible for up to ten minutes. Watering when it is cooler out will save you some sweat and see your grass be more accepting of the water itself.
Fertilize regularly: Make a schedule for fertilization and stick to it. Be sure that you are using the proper type of fertilizer for the type of grass that you have to ensure the proper nutrients are being given to your lawn. You also need to be sure that your lawn will get plenty of water after you fertilize so that you can avoid your turf being burned by the fertilizer. While you cant fertilize when there is snow on the ground you can fertilize as close as possible to the first snow fall so that your lawn has something to feed off of when the white stuff comes down and winter is in full force.
Prepare your lawn for the cold: When Mr. Frost comes calling and the air is getting chilly you know it is time for that final prep of your lawn. Start by raking up all the leaves and other debris in the yard and then give your lawn one final cut at about medium cut height on your mower. When the snow is on your lawn, use you walkway and dont trample all over your yard. This will be too much pressure for your grass and will result in brown dead patches once the snow goes away.
There is no doubt that lawn care in Colorado takes more time and effort than many other places in the US, but with a little extra care and spoiling of your lawn you will be the neighbor on the block that always hears, How do you get your lawn to look so good all the time?
